Dear Writer,
Welcome to Session 2: The Heartbeat — Core Beliefs & Values.
In Session 1, you met your main character and gave them shape. But a name, a home, and a job don’t make a person real.
What does?
Their values. Their beliefs. This is their heartbeat. This session challenges you to look closely to that inner rhythm—listen and test it.
What Are We Really Exploring?
Every emotionally resonant character is anchored by a core belief system. That system might be inherited, chosen, or scarred into them by experience. It guides their decisions and reveals their limits. It also ties directly into the Four Foundations we’re building with:
The Four Foundations (Revisited)
Goals – What does your character want?
Beliefs – What values, faith, or code guides their decisions?
Relationships – Who shaped them? Who do they owe—or think they owe?
The Lie – What false belief about themselves or the world holds them back?
These elements come into sharp focus when your character is tested—especially when there’s no good choice.
